Claude Lobo, director of design for Ford small and medium cars, was interviewed by reporter Georg Auer.
The three- and five-door Focus has a courageous New Edge design, but the wagon and sedan only have the striking front. Was Ford frightened by its courage?
Definitely not. From the beginning it was decided to have a very courageous design on the three-door version, which mainly appeals to young people. This creates the environment for the five-door version, which follows the three-door design exactly. The four-door is more conservative for married couples, where the children have already left home. The estate car follows along those lines. We need those quieter models for part of our customers, especially for the North American market. All this was clear and decided from the outset.
