Simple is usually best
FORD'S NEW Focus has a lot of clever gadgets. But some are not so well thought out.
The engine compartment cannot be opened from inside the car, but has to be unlocked with the ignition key.
The electronic remote locking device, which offers five different ways of locking and unlocking the car, is complicated. At the car's technical launch, even the presentation engineers got muddled.
Too late for Cadillac?
THE LONG-TIME leader in the USA's luxury car market is about to take a fall in its home territory.
Ford's Lincoln brand is leading Cadillac in year-to-date sales, thanks to the Lincoln Navigator sport-utility. Mercedes-Benz is a close No. 3, thanks to its M-class sport-utility. And Cadillac? The Escalade sport-utility arrives in October.
After seven months, the score was Lincoln, 108,109; Cadillac, 101,429; and Mercedes, 97,774.
Cadillac hopes to sell 5,000 Escalades in what remains of the year. It will be four-wheel drive and powered by a 255hp V-8.
