Autoliv in Poland
WROCLAW, Poland - Autoliv Inc. is building a plant near Wroclaw, Poland, to make seat belts and airbag cushions. Autoliv Poland will have a 10,000 square-meter, $10 million facility with 100 workers when production begins next spring, and 600 workers in 2000.
Autoliv is also expanding its test capability by building a 2,500-square meter crash-testing facility in Tsukuba, Japan. Construction is scheduled to begin in October with completion in March 1999.
Breed in Finland
HELSINKI, Finland - Breed Technologies Inc. has opened a plant here to make airbag sensors. The 126,000-square-foot plant is equipped to produce 10 million sensors a year. Breed's subsidiary, Hamlin, is a leading maker of capacitive sensors and crash sensors. Breed is based in Lakeland, Florida.
Durr wins Visteon contract
Durr UK has won a major contract from Visteon to install facia painting equipment in Visteon's plastics molding and instrumentation plant at Enfield, North London. The facility will produce Ford Puma facias. Production start-up is scheduled for February 1999. Initially spraying will be manual, but there will be provision for future robotized high-volume operation.
Magna-Grammer truck seat venture
LIVONIA, Michigan - Magna International Inc. has formed a 50-50 joint venture here with Grammer AG of Amberg, Germany, to make seats for medium- and heavy-duty trucks in the USA. The venture will be called GRA-MAG Truck Interior Systems LLC. The venture has a contract with a major truckmaker. Grammer specializes in seats for the trucking, agriculture, mass transit and automotive industries.
Meritor wins bus contract
BRESICIA, Italy - Meritor Automotive Inc. has formed a partnership with Streparava SpA. Adro of Brescia, Italy, to develop independent front suspensions for buses, coaches and motor homes. Meritor handles global sales and marketing, while Streparava will design components.
