While at Automotive News, Wernle covered marketing, advertising, used cars, fleets, used-car superstores and the revolution in auto retailing.
Before that, Wernle spent 10 years with Automotive News' sister publication Crain's Detroit Business, where he covered transportation, international trade, utilities, technology, advertising and sports business.
He previously served as editor of the Nation/World section of the Ann Arbor News in Ann Arbor, Michigan and editor of the Cheboygan Daily Tribune in Cheboygan, Michigan.
He is a native of Crawfordsville, Indiana, and graduated from Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
