BIRMINGHAM, UK - In a deal worth £23 million ($14 million) a year, Land Rover will buy steel and aluminum stampings and other parts from Birmingham-based van manufacturer LDV. The contract, for the new Discovery sport-utility, covers more than 100 stampings, including the main floor, rear body side inners, wheel arches and rear tailgate inners. A number of sub-assemblies are also included. LDV already supplies panels for Land Rover's Defender.
STUTTGART - Bosch is supplying the 'Comand' cockpit electronics and navigation system for the new Mercedes-Benz S-class. 'Comand' was developed jointly with Daimler. Bosch also supplies the car's Electronic Stability Program, ABS, common-rail fuel injection system and Xenon headlights.
COVENTRY, UK - The UK-built Peugeot 206 will be available in 19 colors thanks to the installation of a new, portable paint-mix system developed by Inlac, Duerr's UK-based, materials-handling division.
Karen Baxter, paint facilities supervisor at Peugeot's Ryton, UK, plant, said the $320,000 system would allow the company to 'exploit fully the variety and availability of exciting new colours in the marketing of 206 limited editions.'
LONDON - Ford has appointed Axial Ltd., a division of Tibbett & Britten Group plc, to deliver all Focus cars to dealers and customers in the UK. Axial is the largest specialist new-car logistics company in the UK and France.
