Three German roadsters, the BMW Z3, the Porsche Boxster and the Mercedes-Benz SLK, are accomplishing their mission: Bringing new customers to their brands in the USA.
The Boxster was the most successful conquester; 92.4 percent of its buyers and lessors owned no Porsche products.
The data, from the first quarter of 1999, was compiled for Automotive News by Polk, based in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Automotive News is Automotive News Europe's sister publication in the USA.
Karen Piurkowski, director of loyalty at Polk, said the findings are good news for upcoming roadsters, including the Honda S2000, due in the USA in September, and the Cadillac Evoq, due in 2003.
