Holger Haerter is finance director of Porsche AG and management board member with responsibility for purchasing. He was interviewed by Automotive News Europe reporter Edmund Chew.
Will you change the way you work with suppliers?
We must involve suppliers much earlier in the development phase to get an early feel for quality and costs. We want to select key suppliers with development capacity so that we can develop a program together to reach these targets.
Do you believe supplier consolidation is producing more capable suppliers?
We lose a bit of flexibility. Porsche is a mid-sized company, and we work very well with companies that are structured like mid-sized companies. Although we are very flexible, we are not always 100 percent pleased with the wave of concentration.
Do you find it difficult to get suppliers to work for you?
Supplier interest in working with Porsche is still high. Last year we were again picked by the University of Bamberg as the best carmaker to work with. That decision is voted for by the suppliers.
