Rover's plans for a television commercial for the Mini for the first time in 10 years have been dashed after Porsche and Ferrari complained it could damage their image.
The ad depicts a gameshow where a female contestant judges a lineup of naked men, guessing which car they drive based on what Rover called their 'natural attributes.' In a wholly unexpected storyline, the ad showed that the most 'impressive' man drove a Mini, while the 'lesser' men drove other makes - including Ferrari and Porsche.
Patrick Fleming, brand manager for Mini, said: 'We are sorry to disappoint the very many Mini fans out there, but we have provided alternative arrangements' for people who want to see it. So, anyone desperate to see this groundbreaking moment in automotive advertising can log on to the Mini's Web site at www.mini.co.uk.
