Warsaw - Toyota Motor Corp. will invest $92 million in an automotive parts plant in Poland, its first factory in Eastern Europe.
Toyota president Fujio Cho said the plant will employ 300 workers to produce 250,000 gearboxes a year for the Avensis, Corolla and Yaris models.
It will be Toyota's fourth European plant. The automaker already operates an assembly plant and an engine plant in England and is building an assembly plant in France.
Toyota has not said where it will locate its Polish plant. However, Walzbrych in southern Poland is considered a likely site because of its proximity to Germany and the Czech Republic.
