DETROIT - Faurecia's seating contract with General Motors has transformed the French supplier's position in the US market. Faurecia marketing director Patrick de Bellescize said the contract has led to a surge of interest from other US carmakers.
Faurecia was awarded the North American seating contract after winning European business for GM's Epsilon program. The US seats will share design elements with the European product. Prior to the GM contract Faurecia employed about 1,000 people in North America, mostly in its seat frames and components business. But Faurecia had difficulty breaking into the complete-seat market.
