RUSSELSHEIM, Germany - General Motors' Adam Opel AG has appointed new directors of sales and marketing and finance to its management board.
Andrej Barcak, 53, has been named to an expanded position in charge of sales, marketing and aftersales on the board.
Walter Borst, 38, becomes finance director.
Barcak, who joins the board on May 1, was formerly executive director for sales, marketing and aftersales for central and eastern Europe. (See separate story on Page 3.)
He will replace Klaus Bapp, 56, Opel's director of aftersales since 1993, who will leave at the end of April by mutual consent.
Barcak also takes over the responsibilities of Christian Grupe, Opel's sales and marketing director who left the company last September.
'The reason for combining sales, marketing and customer care for vehicles and parts is that it will facilitate better support for our dealers,' said Opel Chairman Bob Hendry.
'They are fully in favor of the new organization.'
Borst will become Opel's executive director of finance when Hennig Klages, 61, retires in October.
An American of German descent, Borst worked as comptroller at Opel's plant here from 1995 to 1997. He most recently held the position of assistant treasurer for GM in New York.
Meanwhile, Opel announced that quality assurance director Manfred Wolf, 62, took early retirement on April 1.
A replacement will be announced at a later date.
