Italdesign exhibited the original plaster model of the Fiat Panda from late 1976. Giorgetto Giugiaro also revealed a 'virtual reality' car that could be seen as the Panda of the year 2000. When it was introduced in 1980 the Panda's height shocked the car world: it was 1440mm tall. Giugiaro's virtual reality proposal is quite similar to the Panda in length and width, but it is much taller at 1560mm.
In such a compact package, Giugiaro's design is able to sit five adults. A child can also be accomodated in the center front seat. This virtual project, developed in three weeks, was designed to have four-wheel drive and a completely flat floorpan. As in the Fiat Ecobasic concept car, there is an asymmetric door layout, with a normal door on the driver side and a smaller door on the passenger side. Fabrizio Giugiaro, son of Giorgetto and Italdesign's styling director, also created his own virtual concept car for Turin: a six-seat sport-utility.
