BMW has kept design changes to an absolute minimum on the mid-life face-lift for its 5 series range.
There are minor amendments to the grille, headlamps and front spoiler, but BMW says: 'The makeover is intended to be subtle, and to protect the residual value of earlier cars.'
Inside there are further small improvements, including new airbag options, and a new range of audio and communication equipment. Changes apply to 2001 model year 5 series models, that go on sale in October.
Following the introduction of the new 3.0-liter gasoline engine, which has replaced the 2.8-liter unit, two more straight six-cylinder gasoline engines join BMW's lineup. A 2.2-liter engine replaces the 2.0-liter in the 5 series and 3 series, although the cars will continue to be badged 520i and 320i. And the 323i and 523i are replaced by 325i and 525i versions powered by a new 2.5-liter, 192bhp engine.
