Though he carries a lower profile than Jurgen Schrempp, Ferdinand Pi'ch and Louis Schweitzer, probably no auto chief executive in the 1990s has reshaped his company as fully as Jean-Martin Folz (right) of PSA/Peugeot-Citroen.
And it is paying off. Since taking over as chairman in October 1997, Folz has turned tradition-bound PSA into a modern, successful automaker. And not only successful, but still independent.
Folz, who doesn't think PSA needs to merge or be swallowed up, has been named an Automotive News Europe Eurostar for 2000. He is the winner in the CEO category.
