Lotus has unveiled a proposal for a future sports car designed by 25-year-old Swedish student Ted Mannerfelt.
Mannerfelt went to Lotus to undertake his student placement as part of a Transport Design degree. Through encouragement from Russell Carr, head of design at Lotus, Mannerfelt began work on his vision of a Lotus for the future at the company's Coventry, England, facility.
Lotus also provided a private design studio, materials and machining, and 10,000 (E16,510) to complete the project.
Called the Extreme, the proposed vehicle is a radical two-seater, with a cockpit closer to a fighter plane than a traditional sports car. The Extreme features an aluminum chassis with composite bodywork, a hybrid electric/two-stroke gasoline engine, and a suspension system that allows the car to lean into bends.
Total weight of the Extreme is around 450kg, and the car can accelerate from 0-100kph in about five seconds.
