Italian brake specialist Brembo believes highly focused component producers have an important role to play in Europe's aftermarket.
Brembo has enjoyed strong growth in the aftermarket in the last 10 years. The company sees further opportunities ahead, des-pite a weakening in demand for traditional aftermarket parts.
'There are not many products that in the future will need to be replaced on a typical car,' said Andrea Taschini, Brembo's commercial director for the aftermarket. 'But brakes will continue to be a growing business because of safety concerns. They will remain one of the few consumption parts of the car.'
Brembo also sees opportunities to serve carmakers' aftermarket ambitions.
'Look at what Jaguar is doing -they are offering a Brembo kit to improve the brake system of their normal cars,' says Taschini.
He added: 'In that case we are producing for the big guys. The Brembo brand can become part of the aftermarket for the OEM.'
