Fujio Cho, Toyota president
A Japanese newspaper reported that Toyota is converting a large part of its financial reserves into the euro currency. Is this true?
I think this is a misunderstanding. We are increasing our global presence outside Japan, so we are accumulating foreign currency where it is appropriate for the local operations. Rather than bring those foreign currencies into Japan, we keep them in those countries for the investments we have to make.
At the Tokyo show, Toyota and Daihatsu shared the same stand. Daihatsu did not have a separate display. Does that mean Toyota and Daihatsu might eventually become 'Toyatsu?'
No. We have increased our share in Daihatsu because it has the best experience with small cars and [Japan-only] minicars. Daihatsu is a splendid company and we would not think of letting the brand vanish. We just wanted to show that both companies are run along very similar lines for similar, shared purposes.
