Opel's full-sized Omega will be replaced, says Opel Chairman Carl-Peter Forster.
'We are working intensively on a completely new model in the segment above the Vectra,' Forster said. 'For me, there is no doubt that we will offer a car based on the great Opel tradition which demonstrates the technical and innovative strengths of our company.'
Hans Demant, Opel's engineering boss, added: 'We are working on a concept for an upper-class car that will have a whole new interpretation in the segment. We are talking about something very different.'
Opel Design Director Hans Seer said the new model could feature a flexible seating arrangement similar to the Opel Zafira's 'Flex 7' system.
The new model, code-named Vectrum, is said to resemble a blend between the Zafira and Renault's radical Avantime. Pro-jected launch date is 2003.
