When Satoru Tsujimoto returns home from work he is assured of a big welcome. Tsujimoto is the proud owner of two of the giants of the canine world, an English mastiff, (Blueno) and a Great Dane (Oreo). He finds playing with these two rowdy youngsters a great way to relax.
Tsujimoto joined Mitsubishi Motors in Japan after graduating from college in 1970. In 1987 he was appointed design manager at Mitsubishis California studio. In 1992, he returned to Japan where he worked on the fourth-generation Mirage series and on the Space Star concept car.
From 1995 until 2004 he held general manager positions at the companys studios in the US and Japan. He moved to Germany in late 2004 to become head of Mitsubishi Design Europe.

If you could work at another job what would it be? Id like to split my time between being a master of the tea ceremony and a blues musician. This way I could mix Eastern and Western cultures.
What is your most treasured possession? My collection of jazz records. CDs are very
convenient, but I think you get a much truer sound from vinyl with a valve amplifier.
How do you relax? I play with my dogs Blueno and Oreo. I also play tennis and love listening to jazz.
What is your strongest attribute? Im good at being happy even when things are difficult.
What was the most fun you had in the past year? The mental journey Ive undertaken since moving to Germany from the US as they are so far apart
culturally. The atmosphere in California is very free and optimistic. In Germany it is much more serious. I have been getting used to the differences and enjoying the experience.
What talent would you really like to have? Id like to be able to sing and play the electric guitar well. Im not much of a singer and I dont play well because I dont have the discipline to practice often enough.
What would you like to change about yourself? Id like to be less shy when meeting new people.
What kind of holidays do you prefer? Any holiday without people except my wife and no telephones or computers.
How would you describe your management style? Frank, honest and open. Ive got nothing to hide.
What car from history do you wish you had designed? The Lancia Stratos HF.
What expressions best sum up your personality? Less is more; Honesty first; Never look back.
What is your greatest extravagance? My jazz and blues collection.
What is your greatest achievement so far? The design of the second and third generations of the Mitsubishi Eclipse sports coupe. This is a very important vehicle for Mitsubishis brand image in the US.
What are you good at? Im very optimistic by nature and can make the best of change.

What do you do on planes? Set my watch to the destination ahead and look forward to arriving there. I also let my mind run free so I can do some private brainstorming.
What are you reading at the moment? Im trying to learn some new languages so I am reading German, Italian and Spanish for beginners.
