VERONA, Italy -- Italy's dealers have voted Ford Motor as the best carmaker to do business with.
The result is a pay off for Ford's seven-year restructuring of its Italian dealer network.
"It shows that our business equation to have fewer but stronger dealers has worked out," said Massimo Pasanisi, Ford Italia CEO.
Ford topped the overall satisfaction category in the DealerSTAT study, which sought feedback from 1,025 dealers or almost 30 percent of Italy's car sellers.
Since Ford launched its new distribution strategy in 1999, the automaker progressively reduced its number of franchised dealers in Italy to 119 from 250.
Dealers who survived the shake up were given bigger sales territories.
The DealerSTAT study, now in its third year, was carried out between January and early May by the Italian market research company Quintegia.
