Virginia auto dealer Don Beyer is President Barack Obamas choice for U.S. ambassador to Switzerland and Lichtenstein.
Obama said last week in a statement he planned to nominate Beyer, who owns five Virginia dealerships. The Senate must confirm the nomination.
Beyer, 58, sells Volvo, Kia, Land Rover and Subaru vehicles. He and his wife raised more than $1 million for Obamas presidential campaign and led the Obama transition team's agency review at the Commerce Department.
He chaired the American International Automobile Dealers Association in 2006 and served as lieutenant governor of Virginia from 1989 to 1998. He serves on Volvos International Product Development team.
A secretary at Beyers office today said Beyer was not allowed to comment on the nomination.
