Porsche AG will likely run autonomously in North America after its integration with Volkswagen AG, a spokesman says.
"We have been assured that Porsche will remain Porsche, and this was also mentioned today amidst all the breaking news," spokesman Tony Foladpour said Thursday in an e-mail rely to questions.
Likewise, Jeff Kuhlman, spokesman for Audi of America, said it is likely that VW's existing brand organizations in the United States will continue to report to their individual headquarters.
"The VW group in the U.S. has each company running autonomously -- VW reports to Wolfsburg (Germany), Bentley to Crewe (England) and Audi to Ingolstadt (Germany)," he said.
A Volkswagen spokesperson did not immediately respond to an inquiry.
The two companies today announced that VW will buy 42 percent of Porsche stock, with merger into integrated company by the end of 2011.
