MUNICH -- Fiat-owned Italian supplier Magneti Marelli S.p.A. and Samsung Mobile Display Co. of South Korea have signed an agreement to co-develop new-generation displays for automotive instrument clusters, infotainment systems and navigation devices.
The partners will focus on new technologies for the automotive market such as bendable and free-shape displays, capacitive touch panels and thin film transistor (TFT) applications.
The companies currently are working on a new 9-inch TFT instrument cluster and a 12-inch reconfigurable display.
“In our vision, the human-machine Interface will be more and more a key competitive factor inside the car and displays represent a key component,” Magneti Marelli CEO Eugenio Razelli said in a statement. “We are committed to creating value for our customers by making available to the automotive sector the newest technologies which are currently successful in the consumer market.”
