MUNICH -- Mitsubishi has released pictures of a new crossover that it plans to unveil at the Geneva auto show on March 2.
Called the ASX, the compact crossover is a European-spec version of the RVR, which will go on sale in Japan starting in February.
Mitsubishi said the ASX five-seat crossover will be introduced in European countries starting in late spring.
The model is part of Mitsubishi's strategic shift in Europe from being an SUV-focused nameplate to a manufacturer of environmentally-friendly passenger cars and crossovers.
The ASX is the first model to get the company's new clean-diesel engine, a Euro 5-compliant 1.8-liter turbocharged direct-injection diesel unit jointly developed by Mitsubishi and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.
The engine will have stop-start technology to improve fuel economy and will be mated to a six- speed manual transmission.
