Hella has developed a small, lightweight camera that can be installed in cars or trucks of any size.
The company partnered with Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. to produce the camera, dubbed the RVC3, which can be installed in a vehicle's tailgate or rear emblem.
Mark Brainard, Hella Electronics' vice president of product development, says the vehicle's navigation screen will display a video image of the 130-degree view directly behind the rear bumper.
In the 2008-09 fiscal year, Hella's global parts sales to automakers totaled $4.56 billion. The German company makes lighting and electronics systems.
