Great Wall Motor Co. will launch production at its Bulgarian assembly plant next year, reports the Sofia Echo newspaper.
The factory, which is located in the northern Bulgarian town of Lovech, will produce as many as 50,000 SUVs, pickups and sedans annually.
To run the plant, Great Wall formed a joint venture with Bulgaria's Litex Motors Co. Great Wall is investing 80 million euros (739 million yuan).
Great Wall is building a number of small plants that assemble cars from complete knock-down kits shipped from China. This year, Great Wall expects to launch production at three new factories in Russia, Senegal and the Philippines.
The company also says it will open plants in Venezuela and Malaysia before 2014.
Great Wall, headquartered in the northeast China city of Baoding, is the nation's 17th largest light-vehicle producer, according to data from J.D. Power and Associates. In the first eight months of 2010, the company produced 163,500 vehicles.
