Kia Motors Corp. will add a three-door version of its Picanto city car when it launches sales of a new generation of the model after its debut at the Geneva motor show in March.
Kia will continue to offer a five-door Picanto hatchback for the global market, adding the sportier three-door model for European sales only.
The Picanto has been completely redesigned and re-engineered, growing in overall length and wheelbase, Kia said in a statement on Tuesday.
“In profile, the new Picanto features significant sculpting and a very prominent rising character line. The result is a layering of light and shadow and this breaks up the height, giving the car a more sure-footed stance,” Kia's Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, said in the statement.
A Kia spokeswoman told Automotive News Europe that European deliveries of the five-door model will begin at the end of April in Europe, with the three-door model reaching showrooms late 2011.
"Prices will be country specific," the spokeswoman said, adding that starting prices in the UK should be under 8,000 pounds (around $12,465).
