FRANKFURT – Daimler AG said it wants to achieve a new sales milestone for Mercedes-Benz cars in 2011 after record sales in China helped drive the German luxury brand to double-digit growth in the first quarter.
Deliveries of Mercedes-Benz brand vehicles rose by 12.7 percent to 280,552 units in the first three months of the year, Daimler said in a statement on Tuesday.
The launch of the new SLK convertible and a refreshed C class will further boost sales in the second quarter, Daimler said.
"Based on our success in many markets and numerous new products, we want to achieve a new sales record in 2011," Joachim Schmidt, executive vice president for sales and marketing at Mercedes, said in a statement.
In 2010, sales of Mercedes reached 1.17 million units, a 15 percent rise on 2009 sales of 1.01 million cars.
