Doug Speck, Volvo's top U.S. executive, has been named acting senior vice president for marketing, sales and customer service at Volvo Car Corp. in Gothenburg, Sweden, effective June 1.
A Volvo spokesman said Speck's responsibilities may be modified in the coming months as Volvo restructures its management team under CEO Stefan Jacoby.
Speck succeeds Gerry Keaney who is leaving Volvo after more than 20 years. Speck will be moving to Sweden this summer. It was not immediately clear how long "acting" would be part of his title.
Speck, 52, is CEO of New Jersey-based Volvo Cars of North America. He is an auto industry veteran of 30 years and has held management jobs at Ford Motor Co. and its now defunct Premier Automotive Group and Jaguar.
Jacoby, in a statement, said Speck will be a key player in Volvo's efforts to achieve its ambitious growth plan and the "redefinement of the Volvo brand."
Jacoby said Volvo will review its worldwide marketing and sales organization but did not give a timetable or specifics.
No immediate successor to Speck has been announced.
