Q: What was your first automotive job and why were you interested in the industry?
A: After my studies in mechanical engineering, I wanted to be part of a team focused on innovative engine development. I joined Fiat Auto in 1987 to work on engine design and calculations.
Q: GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT?
A: Helping to bring the MultiAir variable valve actuation technology into production and working to develop the TwinAir two-cylinder engine architecture.
Q: BIGGEST FAILURE AND WHAT IT TAUGHT YOU?
A: While leading a team early in my career I paid too much attention to the assigned targets and failed to create the right team spirit. The results were poor, but this provided a great lesson for my future.

A: The speed of change. Today, even things that seem certain need to be reassessed to continuously improve and adapt your products to meet changing market requirements.

A: To engage and motivate all the people on my team to reach the targets we have been given.

A: First, be sure you love the product. Second, continuously strive to reach new targets. Third, never be satisfied – always shoot for something more.
Q: IF YOU WERE CEO OF A COMPANY WHAT WOULD YOU DO FIRST?
A: Using an independent benchmarking analysis, I would verify the real competitiveness of our products. This would identify weaknesses and strengths and provide a true gauge of employee satisfaction at all levels of the company.

A: I love my current job and I hope to continue developing successful new products.
