LIVONIA, Michigan -- TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. is opening a factory in Bielsko-Biala, Poland, to produce electric power steering systems.
The 9,000-square-meter factory will be close to TRW's plant in Czechowice-Dziedzice. The new plant will launch production in the first quarter of 2012.
The company expects strong demand for electric power steering. By 2015, TRW estimates that up to 80 percent of new vehicles will feature electric steering, which can improve fuel economy by an estimated 4 percent compared with standard hydraulic powered steering systems.
With fiscal 2010 sales of $14.4 billion, TRW ranks 11th on Automotive News Europe's list of the top 100 global suppliers.
