Continental named Elke Strathmann as the supplier's new head of human resources.
Strathmann, 53, takes over from Heinz-Gerhard Wente, aged 60, Continental's current human resources chief. Wente will concentrate on his duties as head of the ContiTech division and also take on responsibility for corporate purchasing.
Strathmann is the first woman to join the executive board of the German tires and auto parts supplier. She will begin her duties in the first quarter of 2012 with a three-year contract.
Continental Chairman Wolfgang Reitzle said Strathmann is taking over human resources at a time when the supplier has ambitious goals. "Now more than ever, it is vital that Continental as an attractive employer finds the best talents worldwide," he said in a statement on Thursday.
Continental expects to grow stronger than the world market in all five of its business units and will increase its 160,000 global headcount to keep pace with demand, CEO Elmar Degenhart told Automotive News Europe in an interview earlier this year.
