Mercedes-Benz will build a convertible version of its new S class, product development boss Thomas Weber told Automotive News Europe sister publication Automotive News.
The convertible will be based on the S-class coupe concept previewed this month at the Frankfurt auto show. The coupe will go on sale in the Europe in early 2014 and the convertible is expected to arrive about a year later.
The convertible will be fitted with a fabric top and will be offered with twin-turbocharged V-8 and V-12 engines. It will be the first open-top S class since the W111 Cabriolet sold from 1961 to 1971.
