FRANKFURT -- Ford of Europe executive Elena Cortesi has been given a global role as the automaker's corporate communications manager.
In her new position, Cortesi will take responsibility for overseeing the four core pillars of the automaker's communications strategy: quality, green, safe and smart, Ford said.
Cortesi takes up the role in mid-April and will report to Ray Day, Ford Motor Group's vice president of communications. She will be based at the automaker's U.S. headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
Cortesi, who joined Ford in 2000, has held her current role as earned and social media director at Ford of Europe for two years. Prior to this, she was public relations director at Ford in Italy for six years.
Cortesi, an Automotive News Europe Eurostar winner in 2013, was instrumental in developing Ford of Europe’s social media strategy and was heavily involved in integrating bloggers and the Internet community into the launch of the sixth-generation Fiesta subcompact in 2008 as public relations chief in Italy.
During her time as social media director in Germany, Cortesi significantly boosted the brand's social media presence in the region, raising spending in the sector to about 10 percent of the unit's marketing budget.
