Premium automakers are progressively pushing volume rivals out of profit-rich niches such as coupes and convertibles. In the first half, 67 percent of all coupes sold in Europe were from premium brands, that's up from 55 percent in 2013.

Premium automakers also outsold volume brands by about 7,000 in the convertible niche during the half. During 2013, volume brands topped premium brands in by a small margin. The lead in both segments is likely to grow as premium automakers such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes continue to have success and volume brands leave the niches.
Press reports say Volkswagen will not replace its Eos and Peugeot will have a single successor for the 207CC and 308CC models.
