Ferrari will build 499 units of the 458 Speciale A convertible, which is the top-performing convertible version of the mid-engine 458 Speciale sports car range.
The 458 Speciale A has the most powerful naturally aspirated engine built by the automaker. The convertible's 4.5-liter V-8 makes 596 hp and 540 newton meters (398 foot pounds) of torque. The car accelerates from 0-100kph (0-62 mph) in 3 seconds.
Ferrari says the car's performance is helped by new rear active aerodynamics, an extra rigid chassis which incorporates 10 different aluminum alloys and Side Slip Angle Control, Ferrari’s version of stability control.
The aluminum retractable hardtop on the Speciale A deploys in 14 seconds, and only adds 50kg (110 pounds) over the weight of the 458 hardtop.
The A in the name stands for "aperta," which means "open" in Italian.
The 458 Speciale A will be unveiled at the Paris auto show on Thursday.
