Land Rover could take on Tesla with a battery-powered Range Rover model, according to British magazine Autocar. The electric vehicle would be based on one of the smaller models in the lineup rather than the Range Rover flagship.
The magazine said the upcoming Jaguar compact crossover based on the C-X17 concept could be the basis for such a model in Land Rover’s lineup.
Wolfgang Ziebart, head of product development for Jaguar Land Rover, told Automotive News Europe last summer that “we see some Range Rover owners or owners of high-end Jaguars as potentially being attracted to electric vehicles.”
He added: “The U.S. and China would prefer a larger [EV], and the Tesla direction clearly shows this.”
