Ford of Europe has promoted veteran lobbyist Andrew McCall as its new vice president for government and community relations.
McCall, 51, replaces Wolfgang Schneider, who has retired.
McCall will have much to do as automakers lobby the EU to ease tough CO2 emissions targets and accelerate free-trade talks between Europe and the United States.
Ford and other automakers are calling for the U.S. and the EU to accept each other's safety and environmental standards and remove tariffs on new vehicles shipped between the regions.
EU-U.S. auto-related trade currently accounts for some 10 percent of total trade between the two regions, according to ACEA, the European automakers lobby group.
McCall, an Englishman, has 25 years of experience in government relations, most recently as executive director for government affairs at Ford of Europe. Between 2008 and 2012, he ran global government affairs for Jaguar Land Rover.
