PSA/Peugeot-Citroen named former BMW executive Sabine Scheunert as head of its Citroen brand in China.
Scheunert is the first woman to become director of a European brand in China, Citroen said.
She is responsible for Citroen’s largest single market. The brand’s sales in China increased by 14.3 percent in 2014 to a record 320,000 units.
Scheunert, 40, began her auto industry career 1998 with BMW Germany, where she held a series of sales, marketing and product management positions before joining BMW France in 2004 as head of product strategy and planning. She became marketing director for BMW’s central and eastern Europe operations in 2006.
Scheunert joined Citroen in 2010 as director of strategy and customer relationship management. PSA has not yet named a replacement for Scheunert in that role.
Scheunert was also appointed vice managing director of the Dongfeng-Citroen joint venture. She replaces Lahouari Bennaoum in both roles. Bennaoum is leaving PSA.
