Volvo has appointed former McKinsey & Co. consultant Bjorn Annwall as its new global sales and marketing boss. He succeeds Alain Visser, who moves to Volvo sister brand Geely Auto to become the Chinese automaker’s vice president of global marketing and sales.
Volvo and Geely Auto are owned by Zhejiang Geely Holdings. The changes take effect Oct. 15.
Annwall, 40, has worked closely with Volvo for the last five years on its global transformation program following its acquisition by Zhejiang Geely from Ford.
Annwall has been with McKinsey since 2000, joining the firm after earning an MBA in strategy and entrepreneurship from the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada. He also has a master's degree in business and economics from the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden.
The Swedish national will take over as Volvo looks to sell a record 500,000 vehicles worldwide this year and targets global sales of 800,000 cars and SUVs by 2020. The Swedish automaker sold a record 465,866 vehicles last year.
