FRANKFURT -- Volkswagen's group sales fell 1.5 percent to 885,300 in September, a slower decline than August's 5.4 percent drop.
A 7 percent sales gain at Audi and 29 percent rise at Porsche failed to offset declines at the group's other brands.
VW brand sales, which account for about 60 percent of group deliveries, fell 4 percent in the month. Seat's volume was down 9 percent and Skoda sales dropped by 2 percent.
Growth in Europe was not enough to offset downturns in other markets, VW said in a statement.
Group sales increased by 4 percent in Europe and 7 percent in the U.S. in September but plunged 44 percent in Brazil and 26 percent in Russia. Sales in China, the group's biggest single market, fell by nearly 1 percent.
Through September, group sales fell 1.5 percent to 7.43 million.
