Dongfeng Getrag Transmission Co., a China joint venture between Getrag and Dongfeng Motor Corp., began production of six-speed dual-clutch transmissions at a plant in the central China city of Wuhan.
The low-torque transmission was developed for compact cars, according to Magna International, which acquired Getrag this year.
Dongfeng Getrag is a 50-50 joint venture between the two companies.
The partnership, established in 2012, will mainly supply dual-clutch transmissions to Dongfeng's proprietary brand cars and Dongfeng's joint ventures with global automakers such as Honda Motor Co., Nissan Motor Co., Kia Motors Corp. and PSA Group.
The JV also has a joint venture with Jiangling Motor Group Co. in Nanchang in east China's Jiangxi province. That partnership produces gearboxes for Jiangling's light commercial vehicles.
Getrag is based in Untergruppenbach, Germany.
