Barb Samardzich, who last month announced plans to retire as COO at Ford of Europe, has been named to the board of Adient, the seating and interiors company being spun off from supplier Johnson Controls Inc.
Samardzich, 57, will retire from Ford on Oct. 1. She has been with the company for 26 years after starting in the powertrain department in the U.S. in 1990.
Steven Armstrong, president of Ford South America, will succeed her at Ford of Europe.
Last week, Ford of Europe, despite a $60 million hit from Brexit, reported profits of $467 million in the second quarter, nearly triple from a year ago. The second quarter marked the best quarterly results there since 2008.
“Barb is an experienced global leader who adds significant international automotive industry experience to Adient’s board,” Adient Chairman and CEO Bruce McDonald said in a statement Monday. “Her knowledge is a perfect complement to the broad industry expertise of the Adient board members. I am confident that Barb’s insight will strengthen the Adient brand and company performance.”
