Mercedes-AMG may offer a competitor to Porsche's 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster, the British magazine Autocar reports.
The current Cayman and Boxster fighter in its lineup, the AMG SLC 43, isn't a hot seller and is getting close to the end of its life cycle.
The magazine reports that the 718 rival could borrow styling from the Mercedes-AMG Project One hypercar and would be priced directly under the AMG GT.
It's likely that Mercedes will place the engine behind the driver and passenger. That would make the as-yet-unnamed sports car more expensive to build, and that would probably drive its price closer to that of the AMG GT.
The project hasn't received the green light, and it's still in its conceptual stages, Autocar reports. Though, if it goes into production, it would become the fifth AMG-exclusive model.
