Peugeot 208 finishes as Europe's No. 1-seller for second straight month

The Opel/Vauxhall Corsa was Europe's No. 2-seller in May, aided by a 16 percent increase.

    Peugeot sold 18,369 units of the 208 small hatchback in May, a gain of 15 percent from the same period last year.

    The Peugeot 208 was Europe's No. 1 seller for May, becoming the first model to hold on to the top spot for two consecutive months this year.

    In April the 208 ended the Tesla Model 3's win streak after just one month.

    The 208 was also Europe's top-selling model after five months, according to figures from Dataforce.

    The other monthly winners so far in 2022 were the Dacia Sandero (January), Volkswagen Golf (February) and the Model 3 (March).

    The Opel/Vauxhall Corsa was Europe's No. 2-seller in May, aided by a 16 percent increase to 18,219.

    The 208 and Corsa were two of just six models in the top 10 for last month to record gains. The other was the Hyundai Tucson (+0.7 percent), Ford Kuga (+47 percent), Fiat Panda (+13 percent) and Kia Sportage (+42 percent).

    Looking at the rest of the top 50 for Europe for May, the other big winners were the Nissan Qashqai (+32 percent), Peugeot 308 (+121 percent) and Mercedes-Benz C Class (+68 percent).

    After five months the big winners included the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, Kia Ceed and the Citroen C4.
