The Peugeot 208 was Europe's No. 1 seller for June, becoming the first model to hold on to the top spot for three consecutive months this year.
Peugeot sold 23,964 units of the small hatchback, a gain of 40 percent from the same month last year.
In April, the 208 ended the Tesla Model 3's win streak after just one month.
The 208 was also Europe's top-selling model in the first half, according to preliminary figures from Dataforce. (Several markets were late with their figures at publication time).
The other monthly winners so far in 2022 were the Dacia Sandero (January), Volkswagen Golf (February) and the Model 3 (March).
The Dacia Sandero was one of five models in Europe's top 10 for last month to record gains.
The Sandero was Europe's No. 2-seller in June, helped by a 5 percent increase to 23,806. Given that just 158 units separated the 208 and Sandero in June, there could be a change to the order after all markets report their figures.
The 208 and Sandero were two of the five models in the top 10 for last month to record gains. The others were all SUVs: the Dacia Duster (+28 percent), Hyundai Tucson (+1.4 percent) and Tesla Model Y, which had a volume of 14,497 in June compared with just two in June 2021.
Looking at the rest of the top 50 for Europe for June, the other big winners were the Kia Sportage compact SUV (+30 percent), Nissan Qashqai (+36 percent), Renault Arkana (+92 percent) and the Cupra Formentor (+55 percent).
After six months the big winners included the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, Peugeot 308 and Kia Ceed.
