Top 10 sellers by market, 10 months: Toyota jumps ahead of Skoda

Yaris was Toyota's best performer while Skoda was paced by the Octavia

    The Toyota Yaris had seven top-five finishes through October, including placing No. 1 in Greece and No. 2 in Finland and Poland.

    Toyota pulled ahead of Skoda for the most top-five finishes in Europe with 24 to the Czech brand's 17 through 10 months.

    That's a big change from nine months when the two brands were tied at 19, according to market researcher JATO Dynamics.

    Toyota was led by the Yaris and RAV4, with each earning seven top five finishes.

    The Yaris small hatchback was No. 1 in Greece, No. 2 in Finland and Poland and placed third in Denmark and Ireland. 

    The RAV4 compact SUV finished the first 10 months No. 1 in Estonia and Lithuania, No. 2 in Latvia and Norway in and ranked fourth in Finland and Ireland.

    The Toyota Corolla had six top five finishes including No. 1s in Finland, Latvia and Poland.

    The Skoda Octavia compact family had 11 top-five finishes through October, including placing No. 1 in Austria and Switzerland, No. 2 in its home market, Estonia and Slovakia and third in Finland, Latvia, Poland and Slovenia, according to JATO's figures.

    Skoda's Fabia small hatchback was No. 1 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

    The Peugeot 2008 small crossover finished October as Europe's top-selling model but through 10 months it only has four top-five placements. It's best showing through 10 months is No. 3 in Portugal and No. 4 in France.

    The 2008's sister model, the 208 small hatchback, had five top-fives, including the No. 1 spot in France.

    The Volvo XC40's five top fives included finishing No. 1 in Belgium. It also finished second in Sweden and No. 3 in the Netherlands and No. 4 in Norway.
