CAREER HIGHLIGHTS Joined the Volkswagen Group in 1990 as part of the product planning team. During the mid-1990s he led powertrain product planning for VW in Mexico and was then promoted to a group-level role in the powertrain department. Prior to starting his current job in 2011, Tostmann's roles included managing VW's powertrain factory in Salzgitter, Germany, serving as managing director of VW South Africa and as chairman of VW Slovakia.
REASON FOR WINNING: Tostmann and his team have done something unique: They won a key quality award for a Seat plant that produces a model for VW Group sister brand Audi. The Audi Q3, which is built at Seat's factory in Martorell, Spain, scored No. 1 in the small premium SUV category in the J.D. Power 2016 Initial Quality Survey in the U.S. The Q3 finished ahead of the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Range Rover Evoque, helping Martorell to rank as Europe's second-best plant for quality in J.D. Power's 2016 ranking.
