Uwe Ernstberger, 59

TITLE: Vice President, Head of Product Group and Development S, E, C class
BASED: Stuttgart, Germany
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS After a six-year stint as a consultant at McKinsey & Co., Ernstberger joined Daimler-Benz in 1991. He was promoted to head of strategic product planning two years later. Since 2002 he has headed development on virtually every Mercedes-Benz passenger car, ranging from compacts to SUVs to large sedans.
REASON FOR WINNING: The new Mercedes-Benz E class is one of the most advanced cars on the road featuring car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communication. Its semi-autonomous driving technology allows the E class to change lanes with minimal input from the driver, which is a step up from the car's larger, more expensive sibling model, the S class. The E class also offers remote parking and even has a safety feature designed to protect occupants' ears from damage during a crash.
