REASON FOR WINNING
Integrated purchasing is critical to the success and future of the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance, which has set a goal of having 90 percent of 35 new electric models on five common platforms by 2030, covering most markets in all major regions.
Gianluca De Ficchy, the head of the alliance’s purchasing organization, working within the framework of the Alliance 2030 plan revealed in January, has set up a strategy of building key partnerships to ensure sustainable electric mobility and monitor the value of the battery supply chain. Among them are agreements for low-carbon raw materials sourcing and refining, for lithium, cobalt and nickel, and for battery cell production.
Among them are a crucial partnership with AESC to set up gigafactories in the UK, France, China and Japan adjacent to Renault and Nissan production sites. Drawing on his deep experience across the alliance, De Ficchy has launched these partnerships despite headwinds including global inflation, a sharp increase in energy prices and a continuing shortage of electronic components.
